Autograph – lengthy, important manuscript by Rabbeinu Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Halevi Heller the author of Tosfos Yom Tov, on Sefer Naftali on Rabbeinu Behaye by Rabbeinu Naftali Hirtz Trivish.

Two pages, one is a copying handwritten by him from the composition Naftali and on it glosses handwritten by him. On the second page, aggadic innovations handwritten by the Tosfos Yom Tov which were never printed!

Sefer Naftali by the famed kabbalist Rabbi Naftali Hirtz ben Rabbi Eliezer Halevi Trivish, a descendant of Rashi, is a commentary on Rabbeinu Behay’s elucidation on the Torah.

Rabbeinu the Tosfos Yom Tov writes in several places that he had authored a lengthy composition on vellum titled Tuv Ta’am with glosses and comments on Rabbeinu Behaye and on Sefer Naftali, yet this composition does not exist.

Rabbeinu the Tosfos Yom Tov also writes that he used to study the Rabbeinu Behaye elucidation every week.

What do exist are his glosses on a copy of Rabbeinu Behaye he owned and on Sefer Naftali that was printed in 1593 in Krakow. In 1959, the glosses were printed for the first time from a copy of the glosses of the Oxford Library.

An additional copy of the glosses was found later, and it is identical to the copy from which the glosses were printed.

This is a special autograph – additional to the two already known copies – in which he copied with precision the last printed page of Sefer Naftali, adding his glosses including one that was never printed.

On verso of the leaf, Aggadic innovations and Drushim, which have also never been printed.

Both the finding of this autograph of the Tosfos Yom Tov and its Kabbalistic content make this manuscript important and unique.

One leaf, two pages, written mostly by the Tosfos Yom Tov. Professionally restored. Placed in an impressive new leather-covered case. Very good condition.

Enclosed is confirmation by an expert and background material and comparisons from the Oxford Library.
