Ofel Vavachan (‘אופל ובחן’), a polemic Kuntres authored by the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Eliezer Weber, the Rav of Mad, in response to the Kuntres published by the famed Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried, author of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. Jerusalem, ca. 1890.

Historical background: the Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Weber, Gaon Av Beis Din of Mad, edited a Kuntres titled Milchemet Chovah in response to what the famed Gaon author of the KItzur Shulchan Aruch wrote in the book Ohel Shem and which was perceived as offending the Divrei Chaim of Sanz.

As in Milchamta shel Torah, the author of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch responded with a Kuntres titled Michseh LaOhel, which was printed with the Lemberg 1884 edition of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch.

The response to this was published in this small work, Ofel Vavachan – this time, disclosing the Rav of Mad’s full name.

The Kuntres contains letters of support he received from the sons of the Gaon of Sanz stating that it is forbidden to own the booklet Michseh LaOhel, especially the disciples of the Gaon of Sanz.

The Geonim Rabbi David of Kshanov, Rabbi Aharon of Kreiz – Sanz, Rabbi Baruch of Gorlitz, Rabbi Shlomo of Bobov and additional Gedolei Yisroel appear in this Kuntres.
