From the archives of the “great eagle”, the holy Gaon “Pious of the Priests” Rabbi Nosson Adler of Frankfurt am Mein, the distinct Rav of Maran the ‘Chatam Sofer’, Sefer “Ohel Yaakov” on the legends of Shas, by Rabbi Yaakov Kahana Shapiro, Av Beit Din of Tiktin – Frankfurt an der Oder – 1719 – first edition – Variant.

On the title page:
“To Hashem the earth and all that is in it, belongs to the impressive Torah scholar Rabbi Nosson Adler, may his light shine”.

Several handwritten glosses and slight corrections on some pages.

The holy Gaon HaNesher HaGadol Rabbi Nosson Hacohen Adler (1742-1800) was already renowned from childhood as gifted and a rare genius, and from his youth adopted customs of Kedusha and Prishus. Rabbeinu the Chida said that the verse “Behold, I know that he is a holy man who passes by us always” refers to him. He established a yeshiva in his home in Frankfurt and headed it. There Rabeinu Maran the Chatam Sofer became firmly attached to him, became his distinct disciple, and titled him “The Chassid of the Priesthood”. The Chatam Sofer also said of him the awesome statement that he was in the level of "ותחסרהו מעט מאלקים” – that he was but a small measure away from G-dliness (a phrase said only of Moshe Rabbenu). A Divine and revered Kabbalist and renowned wonder-worker.

This exemplar has an illuminated title page (some of the exemplars from the same edition have a simple title page).
